Knut!

I want to go to Germany this summer to see this little guy. He is so cute I could just die.

Let me eat cake

I had a little farewell-y thing today. I cried a bunch because I'm such a big dork.

Poison Garden

We blew a wad of cash at the local nursery the weekend before last, because, holy roller skates Batman, we need something besides azaleas in this yard. I learned that we should probably research our plantings before going to the nursery, and, indeed, this was my original strategy, but my better half convinced me that I would just get my heart set on a bunch of obscure things that no one carries. He's probably right. I've been accused of liking things because they're obscure and disliking things just because they're popular - just because I never read Harry Potter and have no intention of doing so! Whatever. We picked out foxglove, iberis, helleborus, phlox and rhododendrons. Three of those are poisonous. I'm going to call in "foxgloved" one of these days just to see what kind of reaction I get.

There was a lot of hype surrounding last weekend's freezing weather. We discussed using our sheets to cover the plants and noted with amusement that we haven't been together long enough to have old sheets. We also acknowledged that we could go to Lowe's and buy enough plastic to cover everything. Both of those worthy suggestions got voted down in favor of sitting on our asses. Not that I wasn't busy. I was hella busy doing some very important estate planning, just on my ass. For whatever reason, the plants seemed to make it through the fourth ice age without much damage. The lesson? Poison plants are hardier than regular plants, therefore we should all start acclimating our bodies to a poison diet so we will never go hungry no matter what the weather conditions. Then we can all be like Rappaccini's Daughter and kill with poison skin of death. Hooray!
